Week 2 - Brilliant sunshine at Jells Park South!

News - 2010/2011

Week 2 at Jells Park South was glorious ... we were bathed in brilliant sunshine ... t-shirts being a pleasant change from the usual bulky coats that come out for the cross country season. The sunshine put a spring in everyone's step ... congratulations to all athletes who participated.

Duty

Many thanks to the Burns and Debicki families who completed duty at Jells Park South. The Brennan and Collins families will be helping at Norton's Park (please sign in with David at the microphone a little before 9am so that the programme can begin on time. David will allocate a duty task to you). It is possible that each family will only be required to complete 1 duty for the season (aside from Regionals and States). I'm currently allocating duty in alphabetical order however if you have a preference to do duty on a specific week please let me know.

Parent's Race

Thank you to Paul Hanlon and Stephanie Thomas for joining me in the Parent's race! My breathing has nearly returned to normal! I'm convinced Jells Park is located at a high altitude ... the air seemed so thin! Once again I was painfully made aware of how talented our children are at running over an undulating course for so far with barely a whimper! They make it look so easy! The next Parent's race is 2 km at Tirhatuan Park (relatively flat) on Saturday 15th May. Start training now as I'd like to see more parent's having a go! Shuffling is acceptable! Lollies given to all parents who compete.

Lollies

When I can, I like to reward our athletes for their effort with a little treat at the end of their race. During the Track and Field season, athletes are rewarded with 'PB' icy poles, but icy poles aren't really an option during the cross country season. Instead, I hand out a wrapped lolly to the athletes. So that I don't miss athletes, I usually hand out the lollies near the finish line, but a little birdy told me that this could be upsetting athletes from other clubs. So, from now on, if you would like a treat after your race, please come and find me (I'm usually at the Waverley flag). Most importantly, please don't drop your lolly wrappers on the ground. If rubbish is found on the ground, the treats will have to be stopped.

Waverley Tub

Every week I bring a big blue tub filled with administration items. You are welcome to store jumpers or other items in the tub while you are running. Please do not sit on the tub as it cracks the lid. I will also bring a chair each week for something to sit on if the ground is wet and you need to get tracksuit pants on and off. You may also like to bring along a chair or rug for the ground.

Booklets

Now that we are settling into the season I will put together a cross country booklet that outlines the programme, tips for training and provides athletes a space in which to stick their weekly results tickets. So keep your results tickets safe until I have printed off the booklets.

Photos

Please visit the Knox website to view the hundreds of photos taken each week by the various Knox photographers. I will also bring my camera along at times to get a few extra shots. www.klac23.org.au

Results

Please visit the Knox website to view the results from each week. The cross country results WILL NOT be loaded onto the WLAC website this season. www.klac23.org.au

Training

All athletes in U9 - U15 are welcome to participate in cross country training on Wednesdays from 5 - 6 pm at Central Reserve (meet at the club rooms) with Jake. Please note there is NOT an official first aid administrator on duty at this time, so it is recommended that parents remain at the venue during this time in case of emergency.
