ON TRACK AND COACHING
On Track (U6-U8) and Teaching Athletic Skills (U8-U17) sessions are included in the Summer (Track and Field) season weekly programs.
SUMMER COACHING - from Mon 7th Oct 2025
Suitable for U9 & above, regardless of ability.
All our coaches have appropriate coaching qualifications, experienced and are happy to accommodate any coaching requests.
Please check our website and Facebook pages in case of cancellations due to wet or very hot weather.
Please arrive 10 mins before the session starts. Remember to bring drink bottles, hats, sunscreen and lots of enthusiasm !!
Coaching sessions are at our home track (unless otherwise specified), Central Reserve, Glen Waverley.
Parents are required to stay for coaching.

Middle Distance/Long Distance & Running training with Neil Hutchins, U9 & above preferred, as these age groups do 400m, 800m and 1500m (U11 +) - Mon & Thurs, 5.45 to 6.45 pm
On Wed, choose which session to attend:
Throws coaching with Shane Carstairs, U9 & above only. Wed, 4.30 - 5.30 pm
Multi-Event offering Sprints, Jumps, Hurdles coaching with Angela Phillips & Ed Kennedy will help U6 to U8 with their athletics skills. Wed, 4.30 - 5.30 pm

LAVic has just released some videos re coaching tips for Centre Volunteers.
JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT SQUAD (JDS) - LAVic program for U12 - U16
JDS is an Little Athletics Victoria program aimed at giving our talented athletes a little more in terms of coaching, education, competition and a sense of accomplishment.
The squad is open to all registered athletes from U12 to U17 that meet the performance criteria.
Starting in early October and concluding late August of the following year, the program consists of numerous activities including coaching days, alternate coaching sessions, coaching camp, education sessions, role model sessions with elite athletes and a presentation ceremony.
Note: U11 athletes may qualify during the season in readiness to be eligible to join JDS at the beginning of their U12 year.

Simone's Summer Season Coaching with Athletics Waverley (our senior club) - to be confirmed
U6 – U12 age groups.
Coaching will focus on a different discipline each week giving athletes a chance to practice their skills in a variety of athletic events. All levels of athletes welcome. No previous experience necessary.
Winter Season Coaching with Athletics Waverley (our senior club)
Athletics Waverley is offering free training sessions to local secondary school students interested in improving their running for the school cross country events next term.
The sessions will be on Thursday nights at the Waverley Athletics Track at Central Reserve, Glen Waverley (corner of Waverley and Springvale Roads). The sessions will cover technique and provide base training to help students improve their running. The sessions will be on Thursday nights in April and May starting at 6pm for approximately one hour. All standards are catered for.

Standing starts are done in all Long Distance events and by the younger age groups for all running events.
Crouch Starts can be done in the sprint events, from U11 to U17. Except for those wearing spikes, who have to use blocks.
