Congratulations to all Waverley athletes who competed at the Geelong racecourse in the State Championships.

Despite the ominous weather forecast and the day beginning with torrential rain in Melbourne, the rain mostly held off to be fine for the athletes in Geelong.

Thank you to Dylan Cooper and Steve and Nicole Lopes for offering to be chief officials for the duration of the competition.

Thank you also to Peter Ziguras, Cliff Warren, Sri Premkumar, Lindsay Thomas and Greg Burns for completing duty and especially to Lindsay and Peter for taking on a little extra!

The course itself wove in and around the racecourse and at times required the athletes to jump over hay bales ... just to add that cross country aspect to an unusually flat course.  The ground was described as ‘cotton’ by some athletes, not sand, not gravel but perhaps a mix of substances that made running on it quite challenging.  >From a spectator’s point of view it was a good course as the entire race could be watched from the grandstand (made even easier if one remembered to bring binoculars).

Below are the results from the day.  Special congratulations to the Under 13 boys team of Patrick, Jordan and Mukund who won the silver team medal.  They now have the full set - Bronze in 2008, Gold in 2009 and Silver in 2010!  Well done!

Congratulations also to the Under 10 girls team who finished 6^th and to Vaidehi, who in her debut performance, tripped over but soldiered on to finish strongly.  A courageous effort!
