News - 2003/2004

On Saturday the inaugural Waverley vs Springvale Little Athletics day was held.
Some 300 athletes from Waverley and around 200 from Springvale participated in
the competition at Central Reserve. The event was held to foster good relations
between the athletes and parents from two neighbouring Little Athletics centres. It gave
the children an opportunity to participate at a different venue with other athletes.
Each age group participated in 5 events, being shot-put, long jump, a hurdle event,
a sprint and a distance event. Points were allocated to the top 5 performances by boys
and girls in each event per age group.
Mulgrave Country Club kindly provided a Perpetual Trophy which was presented to
Waverley who scored 694 points to Springvale's 626.
The day's activities culminated with a "Lap for Kids" event, where the athletes
completed a lap of the track that raised over $300 for the Royal Children's Hospital.
Next year the event will be held at the Springvale athletics track. [Bruce L.]
