Waverley Little Athletics Centre Inc.

Sandra Burns is a Key Official and Distinguished Service Award recipient at the Waverley Little Athletics Centre Inc. She has been involved at the Centre for 11 years and is one of our longest current serving volunteers. Her involvement commenced in 2010/11 when her two daughters joined the Centre, and now her son is in the U13 age group. 

From 2010/12 and 2014/20, totaling 8 years, Sandra volunteered weekly as a General Official, filling various roles that supported our Key Officials and assisted in running our program. She has volunteered in a mixture of roles, such as an age group assistant, recording tent assistant or helping at various field events with recording. Sandra has volunteered as a Key Official for 3 years. She stepped up as an U10 Age Group Leader in 2012/13 and progressed to U11 Age Group Leader the following year. In 2020/21, Sandra has taken on Circular Track and Long-Distance Timekeeping, learning how to run the timing boxes and manage the finish line tent.  

Sandra is one of our most dedicated parent volunteers, who enjoys volunteering from the within shadows. She has not filled many frontline roles, predominantly serving in a General Official capacity, happily hiding in the background without much notice, filling in roles that assist in the running of our program. Parents such as Sandra, that are actively involved and volunteer every week, are the backbone of our Centre and without these assistants to our Key Officials, our programs would not run as successfully as they do. 

Outside the Centre, Sandra volunteered at her children's primary school athletics carnivals for approximately 15 years, most notably when they have been hosted at Waverley. Sandra assisted the school with set up and volunteered for a duty that contributed to the running of their event.  

Sandra is a very lovely lady, always says hello and offers to assist with anything that needs to be done.

In 2020/21, Sandra was awarded the Distinguished Service Award at the Waverley Little Athletics Centre Inc., in recognition of her exceeding 10 years outstanding general service to the Centre.
